5. Sagano Bamboo Forest, Kyoto, Japan
I’ve actually been to Japan once. It, sadly, was a seven-hour layover in the Tokyo airport, and we were so tired, we didn’t leave the airport! So, needless to say, it’s not a surprise that Japan makes our bucket list of places to go. However, there are so many amazing places to explore in Japan – which location should we choose? In my mind, that was easy – the Sagano Bamboo Forest, just outside of Kyoto. In addition to the gorgeous forest of bamboo, I definitely have to add Iwatayama Monkey Park to the itinerary! Ever since I was in third grade, and my teacher had a poster with a Japanese macaque sitting in a thermal pool, I had to see these strangely human-looking animals someday! Plus, with river and mountain views, I’m going to have to stay in a suite at the luxury urban resort of the Ritz-Carlton Kyoto!
