I LOVE cupcakes!

I mean, what’s not to love about these individually-sized baked delights? Right?! Cake you can eat without a fork or even a plate — heck, yeah! LOVE!

One of the most innovated cupcakeries in business today is Sprinkles Cupcakes. This is the company that came up with the cupcake ATM, for goodness sake!  I mean, how brilliant is that?!

So, on my recent trip to Disney World, and a day of shopping at Disney Springs, I just HAD to give a Sprinkles cupcake a try!

Sadly, Sprinkles Cupcakes failed to live up to the hype.

The shop was cute. They had a moderate selection of cupcake flavors available. And, they definitely looked yummy! However, they just weren’t exceptional. :-(

We ordered three cupcake flavors –

  • Dark chocolate
  • Chocolate banana
  • S’mores

It almost tasted like it was perhaps a day or two old. The frosting was just average. I’ve honestly had cupcakes made from a box mix and a can of frosting that were better.

The chocolate banana had the same (or incredibly similar) mediocre chocolate frosting. The cake tasted more like a banana nut muffin, then a cupcake. Sadly, it too was incredibly dry.

And, it also had a graham cracker bottom, which really made the cupcake different. However, the chocolate cake in the middle, again, was incredibly dry and sub-par,

So, is Sprinkles Cupcakes brand notoriety simply due to exceptional marketing of a hum-drum product? Or, was this just an off day at this particular location?

I’d love to hear about your experience with Sprinkles Cupcakes!

Should we give them another try — or are there better cupcakeries out there?

  1. We went there in May and I had the same feeling. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews. But when I took my first bite, it was not what I was expecting… at all. There’s a weird taste to it, just can’t pinpoint what it is. I’ve been to Carlo’s Bakery (yes, the cake boss) and they were way better and not a bad price. Just don’t know if there are other Carlo’s than in NJ.

    1. Thanks, Nicole! Glad to know it wasn’t just me. :-) There’s a Carlo’s Bakery now in Vegas – in the Venetian/Palazzo complex. I tried to get something from there on our last visit, but there was a huge line. I’ll definitely make the time to wait, next time.
